The road lies ahead of me and behind. A wild, overgrown trail vanishes deep into the recesses of the forest. And I stand. The road behind me, although known, is closed to me. I placed the "NO THRU TRAFFIC" sign there myself, erased the road that used to be on my map with my own pencil. The road ahead, while safe, hints at views that will deaden and depress the senses, rather than enrapture and inspire. The trail, mysterious and enticing in the adventure it promises, also looks to be fraught with danger and pitfalls. Which way to turn? Why are these my only choices?
